Soap Box Derby Racing In the News
We now have date set for this years races
NDR rallies will be on Sat. April 19, Sept 20 and Oct. 4
We are also planning to run the Long Island All American Local Race with the winner(s) going to Akron to compete in the world championship on July 26, 2008. We're hoping to run Stock and Super Stock, but we must have a minimum of 12 cars in each division. The local race will be held on Sat. June 21. Now that we have a date we need to confirm cars to be sure of numbers. We're trying to keep the fee between $50.00 and $100.00 depending on the number of cars and any sponsor money. So if you know a business that might want to help sponsor let us know. Also we need to find new people to keep this thing going. So talk to friends and family, the more cars the lower entry fees.
New Point System
The Long Island National Derby Association has come up with our own point system and will award points to all current L.I.N.D.A. members. At the end of the season (July 07) will award a prize to the top point earners. We've had three races this fall and expect several more in the spring. Points will be posted soon. The Long Island Soap Box Derby Club was recently formed to expand and improve SBD racing on Long Island. We are looking for members who want to help shape the future of SBD on LI. We have been working with the Brookhaven Dept of Parks and are planning several NDR rallies at the Bald Hill track. We will also do some work shops and clinics in the future. So join now and get involved in a great family activity.
